According to The g Factor, the GRE has a g-Factor loading in the same range as IQ tests. So the GRE measures IQ, at least for educated English speaking people. This is the link to my GRE to IQ estimation page.

The Rising Curve

Various authors offer hypotheses to explain the mysterious generational gains in IQ (the Flynn Effect).

Books all intelligent people should have:

Critical Thinking: An Introduction

I am quite convinced that learning how to think critically is much more important than having a high IQ. Critical thinking can boost success in nearly every area of a person's life since nearly every area needs decision making. However, most people think critically only in their area of expertise and don't apply it anywhere else. Having a high IQ without critical thinking skills may just mean you'll jump to wrong conclusions faster than other people.

Molecular Biology of the Cell

Nothing in science and technology will come close to changing our future more than molecular biology. It is dangerous to make decisions about it with knee-jerk reactions based on ignorance. It is your civic duty to not be a bio-luddite (at least not an ignorant one).

This is the best textbook ever written. It is accessible to the beginner yet it has a wealth of fascinating information. Some people have trouble putting it down.

If you are planning to follow any of the advice of the 'Brain Boosting' books, it might be interesting to see what happens if you take enough GRE tests before starting a boosting program so that you reach a plateau in your scores, then follow the advice, and then test yourself again after an appropriate amount of time. I'd be interested in getting e-mails with the results. You can send me 'control' results as well. Be sure to include dates.
